Flexibility of ReaderWare Allows Medica to RFID-enable Existing Equipment
BOULDER, COLO., - October 25, 2005 – Medica, a Bedford, Mass.-based medical equipment manufacturer specializing in easy-to-use, easy-to-maintain, and low-cost blood testing analyzers, today confirmed that it has embedded SkyeTek’s M1 HF reader, which includes SkyeTek’s ReaderWare 1.0 suite, to RFID-enable its existing line of electrolyte analyzers.
“Prior to contacting SkyeTek, we recognized the potential in RFID but did not understand fully how we could leverage it for very specific issues,” said Medica CEO Robert Hagopian. “SkyeTek’s reader modules and ReaderWare suite are an ideal fit for Medica, as we were able to embed an RFID reader into our existing designs at a reasonable cost, producing better accuracy in consumable usage that has resulted in a significant reduction in potential user error rates.”
“Medica’s success speaks volumes about the need for embedded readers and enabled RFID solutions,” said Rob Balgley CEO of SkyeTek, Inc. “More importantly it speaks to the flexibility and extensibility of the ReaderWare suite, where a company such as Medica can work with SkyeTek to quickly embed modules into their existing designs to create a finished product that was unattainable last year.”
As of this announcement, Medica has shipped their first production release of RFID-enabled, electrolyte analyzers. According to Medica, SkyeTek’s M1 reader hardware in conjunction with the flexible architecture of ReaderWare software allowed Medica to achieve specific functional requirements without making any changes to it’s existing product design.
ReaderWare 1.0 is available immediately as a licensed development platform with SkyeTek’s HF and UHF small footprint, low power, Tagnostic™ readers or reference designs.
