ReaderWare Security

ReaderWare Security provides the industry’s most advanced security technology for protecting integrity and privacy across both HF and UHF applications.  By integrating state-of-the-art, open standard encryption and hashing (ie, digital signature technology) into its embedded readers, SkyeTek has put  RFID security on par with mature technology industries without impacting form, fit, or cost.  By allowing generic tags to be secured, furthermore, SkyeTek saves customers up to 70 percent over systems using proprietary security schemes and provides the flexibility to change security measures in the future without penalty.

ReaderWare Security Benefits

ReaderWare Security provides the following protection for generic and proprietary HF and UHF tags that possess the requisite extended memory for encryption or digital signature:

  • Anti-tampering - uses digital signature (encrypted or unencrypted) to protect against unauthorized altering of tag data (eg, tag rewritten with lower price prior to check-out)
  • Anti-cloning - uses digital signature (encrypted or unencrypted) to protect against the introduction of counterfeits (eg, counterfeit pharmaceuticals)
  • Privacy - uses encryption to prevent unauthorized viewing of sensitive information (eg, financial data on a contactless payment card)

Applications

ReaderWare comes included with the purchase of a SkyeModule and has been created specifically for several applications that share common requirements for tag support, protocol, performance, and security. ReaderWare is an ideal solution for the following:

Security Technology

The cryptographic algorithms incorporated in ReaderWare Security to achieve the aforementioned protection are the following:

  • Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)
  • Digital Encryption Standard (DES)
  • Triple DES (TDEA or 3DES)
  • Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA)
  • Message-Digest algorithm 5 (MD5)
Function Protocol Type Alorithm
Encryption Encryption Ciphers TDEA (3DES) – 56, 112, 168 bit key options
Encryption Encryption Ciphers AES – 128, 192, and 256 bit key options
Anti-cloning Hash Functions Secure Hash Algorithms (SHA): SHA-1, SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512
Anti-cloning Hash Functions MD5
Anti-cloning Keyed-Hash Message Authentication Code (HMAC) Used with supported hash functions, in combination with a shared secret key.
